Fifth convocation of St.Kabir Institute of Professional Studies (SKIPS), for two year AICTE approved Post Graduate Diploma in Management Program was held on 12th April, 2014. Shri V.V.Surya Rau, President, Group Manufacturing Services, Reliance Industries Ltd. was the Chief Guest.

The chairmandeclared the convocation open and addressed the congregation. He expressed his gratitude towards the chief guest for having graced the convocation with his presence. In his address blessed the students and encouraged the students to take up challenges.

In his speech V.V.Surya Rau integrated the prosperity of Gujarat with the need of competent human resource and inspired the graduating students to further augment the state’s expansion. Foremost he emphasized his happiness for being invited to SKIPS as the Chief Guest because through this platform he was getting an opportunity to address the future of the nation. He emphasized the need for a responsive discussion amongst the educated minds as only such a discussion can lead to innovative ideas surfacing. He further quoted the importance of higher education in the field of management as a stepping stone for the growth of India and Gujarat.

The chief guest also accentuated the need for sector specific education to cater to the needs of the changing investor preferences in Gujarat and concluded that the future of management education should be one which is formulated with the vision of creating Sector Specific Managers. He pronounced his faith in institutes such as St. Kabir Institute of Professional Studies that empower the youth to keep exploring beyond the visible horizon and added that institutes such as SKIPS are the real growth engines of the state because these are the classrooms where future innovators and path breakers are nurtured.

The inspiring speech concluded with the reformulation of the quote- ‘Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one’ by Malcolm Forbes, which according to the chief guest should now become, ‘Education’s purpose is to replace an open mind with creative and audacious one’.

While congratulating the graduating batch, Dr. R.K. Balyan, Director, SKIPS reported the achievements of SKIPS during the year which included academic contributions, faculty achievements and laurels achieved by students in various co-curricular activities from other colleges. He also stressed on the unique process adopted by SKIPS that helps in upgrading student knowledge through a multifaceted approach which results in helping students to take up challenges in the corporate world.

It was informed by the Director that SKIPS had successfully achieved 90% placement with more than 162 companies having participated in the placement process this year and many of them have been participating repeatedly every year, thus showing confidence in the Institute and the quality of students provided.

Students were awarded diploma’s and medals for scholastic performance and best overall performance by the Chairman.

SKIPS, set up in 2008, had established itself as an illustrious institute in management education by adopting competence based learning model, which strives for a balance between rigorous academic input and industry oriented modules in the curriculum.
